I thrive on diverse projects and find inspiration in collaborating with exceptional colleagues.

I am also fueled by a passion to share knowledge with clarity and purpose. My interests vary widely (as can be seen by my unique collection of academic degrees), but underlying those interests is a fundamental desire to gain and share knowledge in clear, organized, and thoughtful ways.

My design skills have been utilized by music teachers, private libraries, higher education, family history groups, home educators, and others.

Outside of my design work, I’m a freelance bassoonist and perform with professional orchestras along the Wasatch Front.

I hold a M.S. in Instructional Psychology & Technology, a M.M. in Bassoon Performance, and a B.S. in Molecular Biology, all from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

What is instructional design, and how can it benefit my organization?

Instructional design is all about crafting engaging learning experiences that help people learn better and remember more. When you use design thinking principles, you can make learning more fun, efficient, and aligned with your goals.

What types of projects do you specialize in?

I love working on projects that are going to make a difference. I’m very good at thinking outside-the-box and coming up with no or low-cost solutions. I can also find high-cost solutions, but that isn’t nearly as fun. Making information organized, clear, understandable, and permanent is what I aim for.

How do you approach the instructional design process?

I am familiar with all of the major instructional design methods (and some interesting minor ones, as well). I take needs/learner/environmental assessments very seriously. Rapid prototyping and testing is my preferred way to design, but I am very flexible and can accommodate other design processes as well.

Do you only do contract work?

For now, the answer is mostly yes. This allows me to work around my performance and family schedule. I am open to formal part-time design jobs dependent upon the nature of the work (e.g. if I think it is really fascinating) and my availability.
